Second Look: A Second Opinion on the Advice You're Getting
Five moments:
- Your boss says, "Hold on one more year. The promotion slot will be yours next cycle."
- Your family has mapped out a "stable" career path for you.
- Your partner proposes moving to another city and starting over.
- A consultant pushes you to decide this month, or "the window closes."
- A friend pulls you into a project that will "definitely make money."
Most of this advice is well-meant, or at least you want to believe it is. All five share one feature: if it's wrong, you carry the cost. Your boss won't compensate you for the year you lost. Your friend won't cover the money that's gone.
Second Look is our project for these moments: a second opinion on the advice you're getting, before you take it.
What we don't do: read minds
The easiest trap for a product like this is becoming a people detector: analyzing whether someone is manipulating you, whether they have an angle. We don't, for two reasons.
First, motive can't be verified from the outside. The tool can't see anyone's heart. Any "he's controlling you" verdict is a guess, and guesses get used to cut people off and harden biases. That's not a responsibility we'll take.
Second, it's the wrong question. What you need to answer isn't "is he a good person?" It's "if this advice is wrong, how do I see it in advance?" Second Look answers only that.
What we do: three signals, one closing question
Hand a piece of advice to Second Look and it comes back with three qualitative signals. Signals, not scores:
- Goal alignment: does this advice serve your goal, or the advisor's own?
- Autonomy risk: after you take it, do your options get bigger or smaller? Is there still a way back?
- Evidence coverage: what is this advice built on? Which key assumptions haven't been tested?
Then one closing question: "For this advice to be good for you, what has to be true?" That turns "should I listen to him?" into something you can actually check. You answer it. The decision stays yours.
Why no score out of 100? A "trust: 62" feels like a verdict, and verdicts stop thinking. We're withholding that number on purpose. Signals plus a closing question are there to make you think one more time, not to finish thinking for you.
Where we are
We say status plainly, as always. Second Look is in demand validation for the US market. Live now:
- The English intro page, with five typical scenarios and a seven-step workflow;
- A fully public three-question playbook: no email required, you can read it right now;
- A waitlist: product updates and early access come by email.
Not live yet: case analysis (early supporters first) and the full report workflow. We're not building everything before the validation is clear. That's gambling, not product-building.
Market scope, also plainly: Second Look is for the US market and, as planned, will not launch in China.
What early supporters get
No discounts, no cash, no outcome promises. We don't play those games. Early supporter perks are three things, all about participation:
- The three-question playbook, free, starting now;
- The first 200 waitlist members get one free case analysis (we cover the token cost, capped, and the valve shuts automatically past the cap);
- Founding users get priority: early feedback carries more weight in the roadmap.
If you're living one of the five moments above, take a look at the English page, or join the waitlist. Not joining is completely fine. The playbook works on its own.
